TOUR DE FRANCE – Perpignan stop on July, 8th 2009: The Grande Boucle run along the Grande Bleue
We all keep above all joy tears of this fifth stop. The arrival on Catalonia square in Perpignan will remain, without any doubt,
one of the most impressive moments of the Tour de France 2009.
Only the memory of a victory in this day will remain; a wonderful victory of the Alsatian cycler Thomas Voeckler who carried out the run successfully.
We can certainly affirm that, after the victories of Pascal Lino in 1993 and of Laurent Desbiens in 1997, the capital of this region is lucky charm for French cyclers.
On this July, 8th 2009, a huge audience placed themselves along the arrival point applauding and acclaiming without inhibition the hero of the day, Thomas Voeckler.
In front of the podium, the crowd didn’t hide its happiness for the hero of the day. Among the audience, his sport director, Jean René Bernaudeau and the Telecom Bouygues team director were very touched.
Went out at the outposts from the 12th kilometre, this champion did justice to the Catalans: the audience as whole thanked Voeckler for the emotions who generated, in this town which, once again rejoices with a success and which smiles to the “Tricolores” after Lino and Desbiens’ victories.
Voeckler, with his victory, tied again five years after, blinding the Grande Boucle with the yellow shirt on his back, in 2004.
We remember that Voeckler was 50 seconds ahead of Lance ARMSTRONG on the arrival line.
The Tour the France is always fallowed by a lot of lovers of this sport; it’s a unique moment for young and old people, all of whom are ready to wait hours and hours under the sun, to defend ferociously their place for only some minutes of happiness. On July, 8th here in Perpignan, the huge audience proved it.
The Tour de France, unique and magic, is the third sport event fallowed all around the world. Once more time Perpignan hosted a French cycler on the arrival line.
The cyclers in the Eastern Pyrenees run alongside the Grande Bleue, from Barcarès to Argèles crossing the seaside, typical villages of the Catalan country and wonderful landscapes, to offer an arrival to Perpignan in a spectacular style. This free, open air event enchanted a dumbfounded and enthusiastic audience.
